Self-love is something a lot of us are striving to do better on. To find ways to show up for ourselves; while giving the love that we freely give others. It is tough as a young mother; to make time to show up for ourselves. But, it’s so important not only for you; to be able to be the best mom you can be but; for your mental health. So, here are things you can do; that will immediately shift how you treat yourself.
- Treat yourself to things you love!
- It’s funny how this little thing; can make a significant shift. Think of it, how many times have you walked into a store and saw something you liked but immediately talked yourself out of getting it. But think about how many times you have walked into a store, seen something your kids would love, and had no problem spending all your money on it. As quick as it is to decide to pick up something for the kiddos, you should be able to do the same for yourself.
- Take walks outside, and get fresh air.
- You would be amazed what a little fresh air can do for your headspace. I have recently started taking more daily walks, and I see the difference in my body; stepping outside and getting some fresh air and just reset is essential.
- Give Yourself Grace!
- It is so important; we are our harshest critiques sometimes and forget to offer the same grace we give so freely to others. Be sure to provide yourself with grace and ease off whenever you are being hard on yourself or comparing to others’ highlight reel.
- Dress up just for the heck of it!
- I won’t lie; the hot mess mom looks tend to win these days more than anything. But you know how the saying goes; you look good, you feel good. So drop the frumpy look some days, wash your hair and put some light makeup on, and look good to make yourself feel good. I promise you; you will be so amazed to see how it instantly lifts your spirits.
- Create a playlist of your fave songs, and jam out.
- A great jam session saves lives (haha). But honestly, dancing really can loosen you up and destress you when life gets too crazy.
- Say NO to things and people that don’t serve you.
- I have struggled so much with but; it is so important. Understanding that the word NO isn’t a bad word; it’s a necessary word and something you are allowed to use without feeling guilty. Saying No will also free you; give you the space to do something for yourself.
- Drink More Water!
- More water in your body and less junk! And the added perks of drinking more water is it’s better for your skin and flushes you out.
- Make sure to get some alone time.
- Finding time to be alone in your thoughts and reflect is essential. As moms, we are giving so much ourselves to everyone. Running around and doing so much for everyone, you barely have time to think about anything for yourself.
Sometimes we put so much emphasis on self-love/self-care. We believe it needs to be this overthought and over-planned out thing. But the easy things do go a long way.
