The holidays tend to be an overspending time between travel expenses, then all the gift shopping the expenditures can add up. But we all have to be smart and spend wisely. We are in the thick of the holiday season, and all the ads are rolling in; we have to stay focused on the end goal, keeping our finances on track even through the holiday season. Here are a few things we all can do to make sure we don't lose focus or get caught up with all the noise:

  • It's imperative to stick to your list of people and things you want to shop for instead. It's so easy the minute you start shopping to get caught up with all the sales, and before you realize you are buying way more than you initially budgeted.
  • Do lots of research before just blindly buying, be sure you search the deals online properly before either buying from a site or going into the store to purchase the item.
  • Utilizing payment plan options, things like AfterPay make it easier to get payment plans and not have to pay everything all at once. I love that the service is allowing you to be smarter with your money and spend wisely.

  • Don't try to keep up with the jones when shopping for others, because we tend to overthink how others will view our gifts or if it will come across cheap is why we end up spending way more than we budgeted
  • Know your limits and stick to them. If you can only spend a certain amount of money, stick to that and don't try to overstretch your wallet.

We all have to be smart with our money this holiday season. It's so easy to get caught up in all the sales and good deals, and before you act like you are buying things you never planned to purchase is normal. Stay focused, most importantly, make sure you are shopping for people you do care and regard.

Another holiday just around the corner; If you are anything like me, you are probably looking at the clothes in your closet feeling lost. Complaining about how you have nothing to wear (or is that just me) won't lie but, having kids completely changed my style. It has taken some years to finally feel comfortable and feel like myself when I dress up. But every time I step in my closet, I feel like I all of a sudden don't know how to dress any longer. So here are some outfit ideas that you can rock for your thanksgiving dinner; to make you feel comfortable and confident!

  • Maxi Dress (shop my favorite here and here): You can never go wrong with a maxi dress, a classic outfit, and can work from both pregnancy days to post-baby days. I love how most maxi dresses flow, which gives you more room to eat whatever you desire; and not feel constricted.
  • Leggings (my all time fave here) and an oversized sweater (love this one), listen am a big believer that leggings can and should happen anywhere and anytime. The great thing about leggings they have stepped up their game; and can look chic. Pair it with a cute mule sandal (get this one) or some over the knee boots (these are so cute).

  • A sweater dress (this one is so chic) is perfect for Thanksgiving dinner; it's chic but yet roomy and stretchy, you can eat as much as you would like.
  • A midi Flowy skirt (shop this one or this one) or dress for a little more dressy look; if your thanksgiving dinners are less casual, then this is a perfect look.

The important part of thanksgiving is the family and enjoying some good food. So no matter what you decide to wear to enjoy that time, be sure you feel comfortable and confident in whatever you do decide to wear!

While this year has just been unnormal, I think it has added on an extra level of anxiety for young moms. I can tell you before this year; I wasn't anxious but, the added pressure of working from home while still balancing being a full-time stay-at-home mom has been a mental overload. With the holidays coming, we are looking for some relief from all that the year has brought on but, it can also be very high stress and anxiety-driven period. Here are some things you need to do to stay ahead of everything and keep your head out of the fog of it all.

  • Stay ahead of things! The easiest way to help not get in over your head; start to feel like you are sinking. Make sure you are planning; even if you are not the plan-ahead type, make sure you have a stored out structure of things so you can stay organized. Also, it will help to shuffle around if need be.
  • Get all your holiday shopping and prep done as you go rather than hitting it hard all at once. I am taking my advice on this and buying the presents and getting things together this year as I go and as I see them. Will, help ease things off your plate, and then there is not that added pressure of having to get it all done in one sitting.

  • Be ok with letting taking the back seat; as moms, we like to be in control and be the one driving and leading things. But, it's ok to take the back seat and let somebody else take the lead on certain things.
  • Stop trying to make everything perfect! I know we all want to give our family, especially our kids, the very best holiday experience. But, the reality is life happens, so no matter how much you plan and how best you have it,  life still happens. So don't allow that to get you worked up or put the extra pressure on yourself.
  • Find little ways to remind yourself to stay calm and motivated. For me, it's writing uplifting and motivating quotes utilizing my chalkola chalk markers  (You can use my code TOLA10 for extra discount) to keep reminding me to stay focused on what matters.

Motherhood has so many layers to it, this sense of guilt to make each experience the best for our family. We carry that weight, and when the holiday season comes around, a lot of us are running like chickens with our heads cut off. Going above and beyond but, sometimes that can be too much for ourselves. So I hope this holiday season you realize you have given so much of yourself this year, and do your best and let the chips fall where they may.
